Rub Review: Dizzy Pig Raging River

The nice folks at Dizzy Pig BBQ sent me a sample of their amazing rubs to review and the first I tried was the Dizzy Pig Raging River.  Raging River was developed for grilled salmon, but once you try it you’ll quickly see how it can be used on a lot of other things.  I wanted to put it to the test with salmon though, so that’s exactly what I did last night.  This rub has tubinado and maple sugars in it which give it some sweet notes, but the first thing I noticed when I opened the bag was the smell of paprika, followed by slight hints of garlic and onion.  There are a few other spices mixed in that I just couldn’t place.  I think there may be a dash of cayenne in it, but could be wrong…

The rub was probably the best blend of spices and sugar I’ve ever had on salmon.  If you look at the pics I took below, you’ll see how nice the color was before and after hitting the grill.  I grilled this slab of salmon on a cedar plank on my kettle with a small chunk of pear wood and it was amazing.  I had actually made a lemon-dill cream sauce to serve on the side (as you see in the pic below), but the fish was so good with the rub it didn’t even need it.  You can grab some of the rub here on Amazon if you want to try some for yourself!
